Read MoreDelighted that this little watercolor found a new home in California. Many thanks to the collector who can now enjoy this painting every day! This is a watercolor done in dry brush technique, with thick wet paint put on and taken off until the colors and shapes were right. Watercolor lends itself to soft edges the more you work with it, and soft shadows are easier to make with this watercolor technique. Painted from reference photo taken many years ago in a rural southeast Missouri town. I'm glad I got a photo and a painting made, as I suspect those trucks are now long gone, along with the rock-walled station behind them.
Read MoreThanks to Bill Wood's Art Gallery for helping find this little 8 x 10-inch painting a new Collector home! Appreciate the collector in California who can now enjoy the colors and mood of this painting every day. Painted very quickly and very early (5 AM) while on a photo reference trip through eastern Oklahoma. The sun rose so gracefully at the end of the valley that I could see from my painting spot. A very pleasant sky.

Hi to all my followers and those interested in art,
This painting is an exploration of sorts into how different colors relate to each other and what kind of emotional reaction they provide the viewer (including me). The grays in this painting are really neutral. The LED screen gives them a violet cast. Grays usually make all other colors more intense, and despite the softness and low intensity of the main colors in the painting, there is a quiet peaceful relationship going on with the painting. If this square painting were displayed with a different side up, or at a different angle (a diamond, say), the emotion of the colors might create a different impact.
Thanks for following!
Read MoreThis painting was done from memory and photo reference of the gardens at the Botanical Gardens (Springfield, Missouri). The gardeners do a wonderful job of combining interesting colors and plants together. I was inspired and excited to capture all the different colors of flowers and greenery growing there.
Read MoreA 14 x 11 inch oil painting on panel painted at Big Cedar Lodge in southwest Missouri. The Springfield Plein Air met there to enjoy the colors and scenery and lunch at the Buzzard Roost. About 85 percent of the painting was finished on location. Back in the studio I changed some of the darks and added more white flowers. It was such a pleasant day to be out enjoying the flowers and sunshine. Not very windy, and the views were great!
